Pause, check, report: a routine for suspicious messages

Three steps that help when a text or email tries to rush you.

Start with something manageable

Scam messages often create urgency: a parcel problem, an unpaid bill, a frightened relative or an account about to close. Do not click the link or call the number in the message. Pause and move to an independent channel.

Put it into practice

Open the organisation’s official app or type its known address yourself. Contact a family member using a saved number. Check payment requests carefully and never move money to a “safe account” on an unsolicited caller’s instructions.

Keep in mind

Take a screenshot, block the sender and report the attempt through the relevant platform or Singapore authorities. If money or credentials were shared, contact the bank immediately and change affected passwords from a trusted device.
